We helped our friends at the Minehead & District Guide Dogs Fundraising Group with their annual Santa Fun Run on Sunday morning. The weather forecast in the run up to the weekend wasn't great, which affected the number of participants, but they still raised over £500!
The Guide Dogs volunteers turned out in force and we were pleased to be able to help. A great team effort!

The school round of the 2024/25 Rotary Young Chef Competition was hosted by West Somerset College and we are grateful to Vere Kennett of the college and the judges Richard Hands and Lewis Singletary for giving up their time to make the contest such a challenging but enjoyable experience for the young chefs.
Rotary Club members were pleased to be able to help the Minehead Town Council led Minehead Victorian Christmas event run smoothly last night.
It was great to see so many people out to enjoy the evening with lots of businesses staying open. There are more photos of the event on the Minehead Town Council website. Veronica, Brian and Iris of Minehead Lions Club and Mollie of Minehead Rotary Club spent a busy morning packing 26 parcels of Christmas presents for Young Carers attending three local schools.
The gifts will be presented to the Young Carers by Rotary Club President Andrew de Mora in December. #christmasiscoming #workingtogether Is your house at risk of flooding from surface water during or following bad weather? If you live in West Somerset we can now offer help with advice and the supply of items which can prevent or significantly reduce the impact of flood water. Thanks to grant funding the items are heavily subsidised and in most cases only a small donation is required as a contribution to help with re-ordering. For more information visit our Community Page
The Rotary Club of Minehead was pleased to be able to support the wonderful Minehead Bay Festival last weekend.
Some of our members assisted with marshalling and we had space to set up Gazebo HQ which we shared with our friends Minehead & District Lions Club. Lots of people stopped for a chat. We were featuring Water Suvival Boxes and our plans to offer assistance to households in West Somesret which are prone to flooding. The event was a roaring success and everyone is looking forward to next year's. Well done to all involved 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 Excellent photos courtesy of the Festival. Following an interesting talk to Rotary by Craig Goodwin, Butlins Resort Director, two members of the Rotary Club of Minehead were invited to attend the launch of the new Butlins Skypark Play area.
Rotarians Mollie Foster and John Baker, along with members of the Minehead Town Council, County Council and press were treated to a full tour of the 164 acre site. The new Skypark is suitable for children of all abilities and provides a safe and secure area for children to learn and play. Butlins is the Town's major tourist attraction and employer and Craig Goodwin is keen to foster good relationships with local groups and the Town and County Councils. Redcoats were on hand to show the guests around. #butlinsminehead #community The photo shows Mollie & John talking to two Redcoats A happy band of Minehead Rotary Club members crewed our Club Gazebo at Dunster Country Fair yesterday. We spoke to interested passers-by about our Water Survival Box display and membership opportunities and, at the same time, did a little fundraising! #FellowshipAndFun The Principal of the West Somerset College, Zoe Stucki, was pleased to meet with Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Minehead before the end of term to discuss how some of the Rotary Youth programmes could be included in next terms syllabus.
The meeting between Zoe and her Assistant Head Teacher, Joel Cornish and Rotarians, Geoff Dibble and John Baker was very productive. Students will be encouraged to take part in some of the programmes and Rotary will help the college to develop these. All very encouraging for the wider development of our young people. #rotaryyouthcompetitions An update - three more suitcases dropped off Tuesday 23rd July 🙂👏🏼 Following a recent appeal by Refugee Aid From Taunton #raft, a selection of luggage donated by Club members was dropped off in Taunton this morning.
They were gratefully received and pleased to hear we may be able to rustle up some more! We are always pleased to help with their valuable work. #raft |
