There's a new Minehead Rotary Club fundraising event for 2025! Make a note in your diaries and we'll post again when more details have been agreed.
We'd also love to hear from anyone who might be able to help by doing some simple face painting before the start each morning. Snazaroo have kindly agreed to support us by donating some paints - we just need some painters! Unfortunately the Minehead Rotary Club Facebook Page has been suspended by Meta so we can't post there for the time being. Please email [email protected] if you can help. In January we made another contribution to the Rotary Club of Ndola Central to support their ongoing “The Price of Being a Girl Child” schools period poverty alleviation programme. You can read about the earlier stages of the project on our website by clicking here. We have so far contributed to the delivery of the project in 3 schools and the recent contribution was to support the delivery to another school in Ndola - the Pamodzi Combined School. This delivery happily coincided with a visit to the Club by the 9210 District Governor Tom Kamwendo who visited the school with them. They also took the opportunity to plant a tree.
Members from Minehead helped at packing sessions at the Water Survival Box HQ in Midsomer Norton on the 30th January and 11th February. Minehead Rotary recently came together for two vital missions, packing Water Survival Boxes to provide life-saving aid to disaster-affected communities. On the 30th January we were honoured to be joined by the High Sheriff of Somerset, Rob Buckley, who witnessed firsthand the impact of this incredible initiative.
Rotarians and partners John, Doreen, Steffi, Ros, Gail, and Andrew, along with other dedicated volunteers, worked tirelessly to assemble an impressive 60 Water Survval Boxes in just two hours. Another Minehead team of Richard Williams, Mollie, Veronica, Richard Perry and wife Wendy, and Richard Robbins packed a further 60 boxes on the 11th February. These essential kits will soon be sent to regions devastated by natural disasters and humanitarian crises, providing clean drinking water and vital survival supplies to families in urgent need. Each Water Survival Box contains a high-performance filtration pump capable of turning contaminated water into safe drinking water. In addition, the boxes include essential household and hygiene items—such as basic tools and cooking equipment, helping families begin the process of rebuilding their lives. These life-saving resources are distributed gobally in partnership with humanitarian agencies responding to emergencies. Rob Buckley’s visit was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the dedication and teamwork behind this initiative while highlighting the critical role Rotary plays in supporting communities locally and worldwide. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this incredible effort! If you’d like to learn more about the project or explore ways to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Our Club has enjoyed a long releationship with the Northfield Hotel in Minehead, holding our meetings and being fed there twice a month. Following a great deal of discussion it was agreed that it was time for a change and, having held a couple of celebration dinners at Foxes Hotel , that was the obvious choice.
We helped our friends at the Minehead & District Guide Dogs Fundraising Group with their annual Santa Fun Run on Sunday morning. The weather forecast in the run up to the weekend wasn't great, which affected the number of participants, but they still raised over £500!
The Guide Dogs volunteers turned out in force and we were pleased to be able to help. A great team effort! The school round of the 2024/25 Rotary Young Chef Competition was hosted by West Somerset College and we are grateful to Vere Kennett of the college and the judges Richard Hands and Lewis Singletary for giving up their time to make the contest such a challenging but enjoyable experience for the young chefs.
Rotary Club members were pleased to be able to help the Minehead Town Council led Minehead Victorian Christmas event run smoothly last night.
It was great to see so many people out to enjoy the evening with lots of businesses staying open. There are more photos of the event on the Minehead Town Council website. Veronica, Brian and Iris of Minehead Lions Club and Mollie of Minehead Rotary Club spent a busy morning packing 26 parcels of Christmas presents for Young Carers attending three local schools.
The gifts will be presented to the Young Carers by Rotary Club President Andrew de Mora in December. #christmasiscoming #workingtogether Is your house at risk of flooding from surface water during or following bad weather? If you live in West Somerset we can now offer help with advice and the supply of items which can prevent or significantly reduce the impact of flood water. Thanks to grant funding the items are heavily subsidised and in most cases only a small donation is required as a contribution to help with re-ordering. For more information visit our Community Page
