Be prepared for the risk of household flooding

Flood Resilience - an introduction

Flash floods have increasingly become part of the West Somerset scene and now everyone, everywhere, may potentially be at risk. So, what can you do to protect yourself and your property? Act quickly and you will save yourself a lot of anguish and cost.
If you are unsure whether you are at risk of flooding, the first step is to check the Government website:
https://www.gov.uk/check-long-term-flood-risk
If your property is at risk you can also sign up for Flood Warnings which will enable you to be prepared before any flooding arises:

Somerset Prepared & EVAG (Emergency Volunteer Action Group)

Somerset Prepared is a multi-agency partnership working closely with communities to deliver advice, support and training to help enhance local resilience to emergencies. The partnership is made up of many organisations able to provide advice, guidance and support to help you develop local initiatives that enhance resilience to emergencies.

EVAG (Emergency Volunteer Action Group)  is a partnership between Rotary District 1200 and Inner Wheel Districts 9, 10, 11 and 20, formed to train, lead and organise Rotarians and Inner Wheelers when we are called to volunteer to assist the Statutory Authorities in the event of civil emergencies.
We formed during the 2014 Somerset floods when the two organisations played a meaningful role in assisting the communities and households affected by the widespread flooding.

EVAG's help for households
In addition to responding to support Statutory Authorities in the event of civil emergencies, EVAG's role has expanded and it is now able to offer advice and to supply items which help to mitigate the impact of flooding on individual households.

Thanks to funding received from Somerset Council EVAG it is able to provide items on a highly subsidised basis, ask only for a small donation to enable new stock to be ordered.

What Minehead Rotary Club can do

Minehead Rotary Club has established an EVAG Satellite Hub to assist households in the West Somerset area.
Club members are able to visit households that are at risk of flooding to offer advice and guidance as to which of the items held in our local storage depot would help prevent flood damage in the event of surface water incidents.
Please use the email form below if you would like a member of Minehead's EVAG Team to contact you.

The gallery below shows members of EVAG and the Minehead Rotary Club at a demonstration and training session.  A small selection of some of the items held in store locally are shown.
