The Minehead Food Cupboard
Our club supports the wonderful West Somerset Food Cupboard, which has operated from the Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel, Alcombe since 2007. Members bring contributions to our monthly business meeting on the first Monday of the month, and John Baker delivers them to the Food Cupboard the following day.

They have produced a very helpful leaflet for anyone needing help or wishing to contribute to or assist at the Food Cupboard:

Supporting Swimming Lessons for Children in West Somerset
The members of Minehead Rotary Club were alarmed to hear that many children btween the ages of 5 and 11 are not being taught to swim at school.
This came to light when the two remaining pools in our area, at St Michael's First School in Minehead and Knights Templar School in Watchet, were asking for financial help to keep both pools open. Although swimming forms part of the national curriculum, not all of the schools in our area have been taking advantage of the pools and giving swimming lessons the priority they deserve. As a coastal area, we feel that all of our young children should be taught to swim at an early age - it's a vital life skill.
We agreed to donate £500 to each pool to help them to remain open. In addition we aim to work closely with each pool to try to increase the number of young children being taught swimming for their own safety.
This will form one of the many Youth Programmes that Rotary are promoting in Somerset. If anyone would like to help please contact us at [email protected].
