Members from Minehead helped at packing sessions at the Water Survival Box HQ in Midsomer Norton on the 30th January and 11th February.

Minehead Rotary recently came together for two vital missions, packing Water Survival Boxes to provide life-saving aid to disaster-affected communities. On the 30th January we were honoured to be joined by the High Sheriff of Somerset, Rob Buckley, who witnessed firsthand the impact of this incredible initiative.
Rotarians and partners John, Doreen, Steffi, Ros, Gail, and Andrew, along with other dedicated volunteers, worked tirelessly to assemble an impressive 60 Water Survval Boxes in just two hours. Another Minehead team of Richard Williams, Mollie, Veronica, Richard Perry and wife Wendy, and Richard Robbins  packed a further 60 boxes on the 11th February.
These essential kits will soon be sent to regions devastated by natural disasters and humanitarian crises, providing clean drinking water and vital survival supplies to families in urgent need. Each Water Survival Box contains a high-performance filtration pump capable of turning contaminated water into safe drinking water. In addition, the boxes include essential household and hygiene items—such as basic tools and cooking equipment, helping families begin the process of rebuilding their lives. These life-saving resources are distributed gobally in partnership with humanitarian agencies responding to emergencies.
Rob Buckley’s visit was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the dedication and teamwork behind this initiative while highlighting the critical role Rotary plays in supporting communities locally and worldwide. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this incredible effort!
If you’d like to learn more about the project or explore ways to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Club has enjoyed a long releationship with the Northfield Hotel in Minehead, holding our meetings and being fed there twice a month. Following a great deal of discussion it was agreed that it was time for a change and, having held a couple of celebration dinners at  Foxes Hotel , that was the obvious choice.

BoulesĀ in Dunster with Taunton Vale Rotary Club

We had a very convivial meeting with some members of Taunton Vale Rotary Club at the Luttrell Arms in Dunster on Monday evening. The weather was perfect and the Boules area in the Luttrell Arms Secret Garden is a lovely setting for a sporting contest. There was a great turnout from both clubs!
We have not been very successful in our skittles matches against Taunton Vale so our hopes for a better result with the shiny balls were high. Minehead did well in the first round and a premature  glimmer of excitement developed, only for it to be dashed by Taunton's strong performance in the second round and their victory overall.

Working with West Somerset College in Minehead

The Principal of the West Somerset College, Zoe Stucki, was pleased to meet with Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Minehead before the end of term to discuss how some of the Rotary Youth programmes could be included in next terms syllabus.
The meeting between Zoe and her Assistant Head Teacher, Joel Cornish and Rotarians, Geoff Dibble and John Baker was very productive.  Students will be encouraged to take part in some of the programmes and Rotary will help the college to develop these.

All very encouraging for the wider development of our young people.

At Monday's meeting we had an interesting presentation by Max Patch from the Love Musgrove charity.
Max explained that following the merger of the two NHS Trusts in Somerset (Musgrove and Yeovil) a new charity, Somerset NHS Charity has been formed to encompass the existing Love Musgrove and Yeovil Hospital Charity, which will continue to operate as before.
The Somerset NHS Charity will focus on raising funds for community healthcare, including mental health projects, district nursing and community hospitals.
Max mentioned the current appeals:
+ To fund the purchase of ipads for local hospitals,
+ To help to fund live music on the wards across the Trust, and
+ To help to fund stoke rehabilitation equipment at local hospitals
